Overview

At the underground of the room is exposed the monumental figurative work "The Anthem of Freedom", that was produced by the Cypriote painter Andreas Makariou and in which the fight of EOKA is presented as the climax of fights for the freedom of Cyprus. For this work that is constituted from 15 big paintings, the historian of art Professor Chrysanthos Christou writes: « With the big monumental work "The Anthem of Freedom", Andreas Makariou gives us an impressive work, that is distinguished for the extent of combinations and the wealth of formulations. Subjects and abstract elements, types of western art and forms of the Byzantine tradition, shaping and problematic space, are used in order to express each category extension of the Cypriot history....
